Hanaguruma 19cm. Amidst a sea of wine-red chrysanthemums, solitary white blooms stand out.
This kokeshi depicts overlapping chrysanthemums casting shadows, creating a landscape with depth. "Hanaguruma" also refers to a two-wheeled cart decorated with flowers, which was often painted on silk kimonos during the Heian period as a symbol of good fortune and abundance.
